This evocative photograph captures the 2nd Battalion of the British Army making their way from the docks during the General Strike of 1926. The General Strike, which took place from May 3rd to May 12th, was a mass protest against wage cuts and poor working conditions. The military were called in to maintain order and protect essential services. In this image, we see the soldiers, dressed in their full uniforms and carrying their equipment, marching in formation along a city street. The atmosphere is tense, with onlookers watching from the sidelines and buildings looming in the background.
