7268435 One of a pair of console tables, 1740 (gilt pine & marble) by English School, (18th century); 90x138x79 cm; Leeds Museums and Art Galleries (Temple Newsam House) UK; (add.info.: Possibly designed by John Vardy. he veneered verde antico marble slabs. with decorative brass beading, rest on richly carved and gilt frames with winged eagle head supports of double scroll design; the freize is ornamented with a fluted band between twisted ribbon and egg and dart mouldings and the front apron centres on a female mask backed by fringed drapes linked to the supports by swags of fruit and flowers, half the design being repeated on each side; the frame is raised on a surbase painted to simulate the marble top, with gilt acanthus mouldings and a fronded shell set between the feet.
