The champion's gold enamel medal, presented by the Mayor, along with five gold, twenty-five silver, and twenty-five bronze medals, were up for grabs in this grand athletic competition. The excitement was palpable as the lower side of the ground was adorned with a commodious grand stand, which was soon filled to capacity.
