On the left-hand side, we witness the momentous Marriage of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Louis VII of France in 1137. This union marked an important alliance between two powerful figures - Louis, who would later become King of France, and Eleanor, whose subsequent marriage to Henry Plantagenet transformed her into Queen consort of England. The scene on the right transports us to 1147 when Louis embarks on the Second Crusade. The image depicts his departure by ship as he sets off on this religious expedition. It serves as a reminder not only of his role as a monarch but also highlights the significance placed upon Christianity during this era. Through vibrant colors and intricate details characteristic of illuminated manuscripts, this print brings to life these historical moments from centuries past.
