EDITORS COMMENTS
An enchanting portrait of Queen Henrietta Maria of England, painted by the renowned Flemish artist Anthony van Dyck in 1632-1641. The Queen, a French princess born in Paris, was the daughter of Henry IV of France and Marie de' Medici, and was married to King Charles I of England in 1625. In this stunning portrait, Henrietta Maria is depicted in regal attire, wearing a sumptuous blue velvet dress adorned with intricate gold embroidery and lace. The Queen's decolletage is accentuated by a delicate white lace collar, and her long, flowing hair is styled in elaborate curls, held in place by ornate hairpins and jeweled earrings. The Queen's regal bearing is further emphasized by the presence of a crown atop her head, and the rich fabric of her dress is draped artfully over her arms, revealing the delicate texture and color of the material. The portrait exudes an air of elegance and refinement, transporting us back to the opulence of the 17th century. This masterpiece is currently housed in the National Gallery of Denmark, and is a testament to the enduring legacy of Anthony van Dyck as a leading figure in European art history.
