A Liberal MP for Clackmannan and Kinross from 1880-1899, Balfour (1837-1905) held the offices of Solicitor General for Scotland (1880-1881), Lord Advocate (1881-1885, 1886, 1892-1895) and Lord Justice General (1899-1905).
