The creator of these exquisite pieces remains unknown, adding an air of mystery and intrigue to their beauty. The photograph captures various examples of painted faience, with figures 1,6,9,11,12,13,14 and 15 displayed as wainscot-plates on the staircase-walls of house Nr. 26 in Via Luccoli at Genoa. Figures 2,3 , 4 , 5 , 7 , 8 and10 are from the same house but located at Via S. Matteo ibid. The floor-plates depicted in figures16 and17 originate from San Petronio at Bologna. Notably renowned for their tile-floors and wainscot-plates was the school of Della Robbia which achieved great fame during this period; hence such plate-mosaics are often referred to as "Robbian ware".
