The image shows two young men intently focused on their work at a chemistry lab workbench, surrounded by various scientific equipment. The school, which operated from 1879 until 1919, was founded on the initiative of Governor-General of Siberia, Nikolai Gennadievich Kaznakov. Through a project organized by American journalist and explorer George Kennan, the school received equipment from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The students were taught a range of subjects including Russian, German, and French, various branches of mathematics, history, drawing, and religion. The photograph offers a glimpse into the educational institution's commitment to science and technology, with the students engaging in hands-on experiments in the chemistry lab. The lab is furnished with an array of equipment, including beakers, test tubes, and a Bunsen burner. The students' serious expressions and focused body language suggest a deep engagement with their studies. The Aleksandrovsky School was located in Tyumen', a city in Siberia, and this photograph offers a window into the lives of young men in this historic educational institution during the 1880s.
