The Arbour, c1900 - A Glimpse into the Grandeur of Inverforth House

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print transports us back to the early 20th century, offering a glimpse into the grandeur of Inverforth House. Nestled on the outskirts of Hampstead in London, this large detached house exudes an air of elegance and sophistication. Originally known as The Hill, Inverforth House was owned by William Lever, 1st Viscount Leverhulme from 1904 to 1925. Rebuilt in the Queen Anne style by renowned architectural firm Grayson and Ould in 1895, it stands as a testament to their craftsmanship. The photograph captures the magnificent arbour set amidst a beautifully manicured garden. Symmetrical steps lead up to an ornate gate adorned with statues, creating a sense of regality and charm. The monochrome palette adds a timeless quality to this scene from yesteryear. As we gaze upon this image published in The Studio Volume 57 in London during that era, we can almost imagine Lord Leverhulme himself strolling through these grounds, appreciating its serene beauty. Inverforth House remains an iconic landmark today and serves as a reminder of both its historical significance and architectural brilliance.
