This photograph captures the enigmatic and intellectual presence of French composer Léo Delibes (1836-1891) and his close friend and librettist Pierre-Jules Lacombe, better known as Pierre Petit, in 1891. Delibes, dressed in a dark jacket, gazes intently into the distance, his thick beard framing his face, while Petit, seated next to him, looks directly at the camera with a thoughtful expression. Delibes was a prominent figure in French musical history, known for his operas, ballets, and orchestral works. Some of his most famous compositions include "Coppélia," "Sylvia," and "Lakmé."
