EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative color photograph captures the solemn scene of a military cemetery at Ajax Bay in the Falkland Islands, during the South Atlantic Conflict of 1982. Among the graves, the headstone of Lt Col Herbert 'H' Jones VC, commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment, stands out as a testament to the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought in this far-off land. The image was taken by WO2 David Langham of the 81 Ordnance Company, Royal Army Ordnance Corps, who was present during the conflict. The collection of photographs, including this one, provides a poignant record of the events that unfolded between April and July of 1982, when the British military intervened to reclaim the Falkland Islands from Argentine forces. The graves at Ajax Bay serve as a reminder of the human cost of the conflict, and the sacrifices made by the men and women who served in the South Atlantic.
