Pierre-Auguste Renoir Young Mother Jeune mAšre

Pierre-Auguste Renoir: Young Mother (Jeune mere), Pierre-Auguste Renoir, 1881, Oil on canvas, Renoir painted this scene of a peasant girl holding a child during a trip to Naples in 1881. Dissatisfied with his drawing skills, he had travelled to Italy to study the ancient frescoes and Italian Renaissance masters; the paintings of Raphael in particular had a " simplicity and grandeur" that Renoir sought to achieve in his own work. One can see the Italian painters influence here, in the balanced arrangement of the rosy-cheeked figures and the gentle interaction between them. It is almost as if Renoir has created a modern, secular take on the Madonna and Child subject. Overall: 47 3/4 x 33 3/4 in. (121.3 x 85.7 cm)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Pierre-Auguste Renoir's masterpiece, "Young Mother (Jeune mere)". Painted in 1881 during his trip to Naples, Renoir was inspired by the ancient frescoes and Italian Renaissance masters he studied while in Italy. Seeking to achieve the simplicity and grandeur of Raphael's work, Renoir incorporated their influence into this painting. In this scene, a peasant girl tenderly holds a child, creating a balanced arrangement of rosy-cheeked figures. The gentle interaction between them evokes a sense of maternal love and care. It is as if Renoir has reimagined the traditional Madonna and Child subject through a modern lens. Measuring at 47 3/4 x 33 3/4 inches (121.3 x 85.7 cm), this oil on canvas artwork captures the essence of motherhood with its soft colors and delicate brushstrokes. Renoir's dissatisfaction with his drawing skills led him on this artistic journey to Italy, where he honed his craft under the influence of Italian painters. The Liszt Collection presents this stunning print that allows viewers to appreciate Renoir's mastery firsthand. Whether you are an art enthusiast or simply captivated by the beauty of motherhood depicted in art, "Young Mother" is sure to leave an indelible impression on your heart and mind.
