EDITORS COMMENTS
The print captures a momentous occasion at Royal Air Force Cottesmore, as 3 (Fighter) Squadron bids farewell and welcomes 800 Naval Air Squadron. The parade serves as a formal goodbye to the squadron, while also marking the arrival of new personnel and equipment. In the image, an RAF Typhoon soars through the sky, participating in the parade with grace and power. This event holds great significance for both squadrons involved. 3 (Fighter) Squadron has been re-equipped with Typhoon F2 aircraft, becoming the first operational Royal Air Force Typhoon Squadron. As part of this transition, they have handed over their Harrier GR7 aircraft, equipment, estate, and some personnel to 800 Naval Air Squadron. This transfer allows them to form the first-ever Royal Navy GR7 Squadron. The photograph beautifully captures this historic moment against a backdrop of clouds and heat haze. The ground-to-air perspective adds depth to the image while showcasing the impressive capabilities of these fighter jets. Taken by SAC Steve Buckley from Armed Forces Photography Unit, this print is not just a visual representation but also a testament to teamwork between different branches of military service. It symbolizes unity and collaboration within our armed forces as they continue to protect our skies with state-of-the-art technology like Eurofighter Typhoons.
