EDITORS COMMENTS
Witness the enchanting beauty of an Australian Kensington Mango orchard, nestled in the lush greenery around Darwin, Far North, Northern Territory, Australia. In this photograph (SAS-1571), immature mango fruits can be seen hanging gracefully from the trees, promising a sweet and succulent harvest in the near future. The Australian Kensington Mango, also known as the Bowen Special, has an intriguing history. Originating in Asia around 2000 BC, the mango is believed to be native to Burma and Eastern India. The mango made its way to Australia in the late 19th century, as a result of Bowen in North Queensland's thriving horse trading business with India. A local farmer in Kensington, Queensland, obtained the seeds and began cultivating mango trees on his property. Mangoes are now grown in four different states of Australia, with Queensland delivering approximately 80% of the total production, which is around 50 metric tons per year. The mango tree, a symbol of tropical splendor, is a sight to behold, with its large, glossy leaves and laden branches. The fruit, a favorite edible treat and essential component of various dishes, is cherished for its sweet, juicy, and aromatic flesh.
