Cardiac arrhythmia with heart and ECGs
Cardiac arrhythmia. Illustration of a section through a human heart. Electrocardiogram (ECG) traces (red) show cardiac arrhythmia, the abnormal rhythm or rate of the heartbeat. Electrical impulses originate from the sinoatrial node (yellow, upper left). They then travel along the yellow neuromuscular fibres (green arrows show the direction of impulses) and stimulate contraction of the heart muscle fibres. Most impulses travel via the atrioventricular node (yellow, below sinatrial node). Cardiac arrhythmia is caused by a disturbance of these impulses, and usually results from disease or a drug overdose. The ECG traces allow accurate diagnosis

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the intricate details of cardiac arrhythmia, a condition characterized by an abnormal rhythm or rate of the heartbeat. The image showcases a section through a human heart, with Electrocardiogram (ECG) traces depicted in vibrant red. These ECG traces play a crucial role in accurately diagnosing this disorder. The illustration highlights the origin of electrical impulses from the sinoatrial node, represented by a striking yellow color in the upper left corner. From there, these impulses travel along neuromuscular fibers shown as green arrows, stimulating contraction of the heart muscle fibers. Most impulses pass through the atrioventricular node located below the sinoatrial node. Cardiac arrhythmia occurs when there is a disturbance in these electrical impulses and is often associated with diseases or drug overdoses. This artwork serves as both an informative and visually appealing representation of this medical condition. Provided by Science Photo Library, this image offers valuable insights into cardiac health care and medicine. It reminds us of the importance of understanding electrical conduction within our hearts and how disruptions can lead to serious disorders like cardiac arrhythmia.
