On Your Bike For Barnardos - 5th January 1984 - BACK in 1982 the Echo

On Your Bike For Barnardos - 5th January 1984 -
BACK in 1982 the Echo teamed up with Barnardos Cymru to set up a bike ride which has since raised more than 500, 000 for the charity. Now, to mark its 30th running, we are looking for people to jump on their bikes and get pedalling to mark the occasion. Former Echo editor Geoff Rich and Jean Summerhayes, an events coordinator with the charity, worked together to set up the event which has seen thousands of people including Olympian Daley Thompson take part

EDITORS COMMENTS
On Your Bike For Barnardos - 5th January 1984 This print takes us back to the year 1982 when The Echo, in collaboration with Barnardos Cymru, initiated a remarkable bike ride that has since raised an astonishing sum of over £500,000 for this noble charity. As we celebrate its 30th anniversary, we invite you to join us in commemorating this momentous occasion by hopping on your bikes and pedalling away. The brains behind this incredible event were none other than former Echo editor Geoff Rich and Jean Summerhayes, a dedicated events coordinator at Barnardos. Together, they laid the foundation for what would become a cherished tradition involving thousands of participants including renowned Olympian Daley Thompson. Transporting us back to the vibrant era of the 1980s, this image captures Margaret O'Reilly sitting gracefully on her bicycle as she prepares to embark on this charitable journey. It serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that collective efforts can have in transforming lives and supporting those in need. As Mirrorpix presents this evocative photograph from Memory Lane Prints collection, it is important to note that any commercial use is not intended or mentioned here. Instead, let's focus on embracing the spirit of giving back while relishing nostalgic memories from decades past.
