This beautiful hand-colored copperplate engraving showcases the African bowstring hemp, Sansevieria hyacinthoides, also known as Commelin Aloes de Guinee or Sansevieria trifasciata 'Hahnii'. Dating back to 1783, this exquisite artwork is a masterpiece from Pierre Joseph Buchoz's Herbier Artificial, a comprehensive collection of over fifteen hundred European and exotic plant plates. The intricate details of the African bowstring hemp's foliage are depicted, with the undulating, atro (dark) variegated leaves forming a striking contrast against the background.
