EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the grand facade of the former Bishopsgate Fire Station, located at 162 Bishopsgate in the City of London. Opened in 1910, this magnificent building replaced the earlier fire station built in 1863, which stood at 23 Bishopsgate. The ornate design of the new station reflects the Victorian-era architectural style, boasting intricate details and large windows. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) operated out of this station until 1964, when it was closed alongside Red Cross Street fire station. The need for a new fire station arose with the opening of the Barbican fire station. The spare escape ladder, standing to the side of the station, is a testament to the station's past role in ensuring the safety of the city. The Bishopsgate Fire Station, with its impressive architecture and rich history, served as a vital part of the London Fire Brigade's network for over half a century. Today, it stands as a reminder of the past, showcasing the dedication and commitment of the fire service to protect the city and its people.
