An industrial laser

The discharge tube of an MCL-1500, an industrial gas laser used to cut metal. The discharge tube, seen here containing a purple glow, is where the laser light is actually generated. It consists of a gas-filled glass tube along which a high voltage is set up. The voltage excites the atoms of gas so that they subsequently return to their original states by emitting photons. When these photons collide with other atoms they too are induced to emit photons of the same frequency. Eventually an avalanche of photons, the laser light, is emitted at one end of the tube

7"x5" Glass Mount

Wall mounted or free-standing, these black edged glass frames feature a smooth chamfered edge and a stylish black border (on back face of the glass). Manufactured from 4mm thick glass, Glass Mounts are a durable, professional way of displaying and protecting your prints. Your 7x5 print is slotted into the back of the frame so can easily be changed if needed.

Tempered Glass Mounts are ideal for wall display, plus the smaller sizes can also be used free-standing via an integral stand

Estimated Image Size (if not cropped) is 17.7cm x 12.7cm (7" x 5")

Estimated Product Size is 20.3cm x 16.2cm (8" x 6.4")

These are individually made so all sizes are approximate

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing beauty of an industrial laser in action. The focal point is the discharge tube of an MCL-1500, a remarkable gas laser renowned for its ability to effortlessly cut through metal with precision. As we gaze at the image, we are immediately drawn to the ethereal purple glow emanating from within the glass tube. The discharge tube serves as the birthplace of laser light, where magic happens on a microscopic level. Through a complex process, atoms within the gas-filled tube become excited by a high voltage running along its length. These energized atoms then release photons as they return to their original states. This cascade effect intensifies as these photons collide with other atoms, coaxing them into emitting more photons of identical frequency. The result is nothing short of extraordinary – an avalanche of radiant photons bursting forth from one end of the tube, forming what we know as laser light. It's fascinating how this cutting-edge technology harnesses natural atomic behavior and transforms it into a powerful tool that revolutionizes various industries. In this photograph captured by Science Photo Library, we witness both artistry and science intertwining harmoniously. It serves as a reminder that even in our most advanced technological achievements lie elements deeply rooted in nature's fundamental principles.
