Enhanced image of a Triceratops dinosaur skeleton
Triceratops. Computer enhanced image of the fossilised skeleton of a Triceratops dinosaur. Triceratops (" three-horned face" ) was a herbivore that grew up to 9 metres (m) long and weighed up to 6 tonnes; their skulls were up to 2m long. This powerful and heavily-built dinosaur was a formidable opponent for any predator. They defended themselves with horns, whilst a bony frill protected their neck. The frill had slots where large muscles for powering the creatures beak-like jaw were attached. Triceratops evolved only a few million years before dinosaurs became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period (about 65 million years ago)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases an enhanced image of a Triceratops dinosaur skeleton, providing us with a glimpse into the prehistoric world. The Triceratops, aptly named for its "three-horned face" was an imposing herbivore that reached lengths of up to 9 meters and weighed an astonishing 6 tonnes. Its skull alone measured up to 2 meters in length, highlighting the sheer power and robustness of this ancient creature. As we delve deeper into the details, we discover that the Triceratops possessed formidable defense mechanisms against predators. Its horns were used as weapons while a bony frill served as protection for its neck. Fascinatingly, this frill featured slots where large muscles connected to power the dinosaur's beak-like jaw. Triceratops evolved relatively shortly before dinosaurs faced extinction at the end of the Cretaceous period around 65 million years ago. This makes their existence all the more intriguing and adds to our understanding of Earth's ancient history. The artistry behind this print is truly remarkable; it beautifully captures every intricate detail of the fossilized skeleton through computer enhancement techniques. Produced by Science Photo Library, renowned for their expertise in paleontology and scientific imagery, this stunning piece transports us back in time to witness one of nature's most awe-inspiring creations - the mighty Triceratops.
