EDITORS COMMENTS
Captured in the early 1900s by photographer George White, this stunning print showcases a picturesque scene off the coast of Newquay, Cornwall. The focal point of the image is an elegant sailing boat gliding gracefully through the crystal-clear waters. With its sleek design and intricate carvel built structure, this small cutter exudes timeless charm. The sailboat's billowing canvas catches the wind with precision, propelling it forward on its maritime journey. Against a backdrop of rolling waves and a vast open sky, one can almost feel the salty breeze brushing against their face as they imagine themselves aboard this magnificent vessel. Newquay's rugged coastline provides an idyllic setting for such nautical adventures. As if frozen in time, this photograph transports us back to an era when life revolved around exploration and discovery on the high seas. It serves as a reminder of Cornwall's rich seafaring heritage and its enduring connection to nature. Preserved within the Royal Cornwall Museum's collection, this print captures not only a moment in history but also evokes emotions of tranquility and wanderlust. It invites viewers to embark on their own mental voyage across time and space while appreciating both the artistry behind George White's lens and the beauty that lies beyond our shores.
