EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a moment frozen in time, showcasing "The Fourburrow Hunt at Tregothnan" in the early 1900s. Led by the esteemed Master, Mr. A. Wallis, both huntsmen and hounds are seen gracefully making their way towards the grand Lodge gates. Tregothnan, located in Tresillian, Cornwall, has been an abode for the illustrious Boscawen family since 1334. The house itself was meticulously rebuilt by Edward Boscawen (1787-1841), who held the titles of fourth Viscount and First Earl of Falmouth. It stands proudly near the site where its predecessor once stood. Notably, Tregothnan boasts Cornwall's largest historic garden—a true testament to its rich heritage and natural beauty. While this magnificent estate is usually reserved for private enjoyment by its owners throughout most of the year, it graciously opens its doors to the public for one special weekend annually. Expertly captured by photographer Arthur William Jordan, this image not only showcases a cherished tradition but also serves as a visual window into a bygone era when hunting on horseback was considered an art form. As we gaze upon this remarkable photograph print from Royal Cornwall Museum today, we can't help but be transported back to that enchanting period when elegance and grace reigned supreme amidst Cornwall's picturesque landscapes—forever preserved through this timeless snapshot.
