EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a historic moment during the Second World War. Two De Havilland Mosquito bomber planes, belonging to the No. 140 Wing RAF of the Second Tactical Air Force, are seen unleashing their fury upon the Gestapo headquarters housed in Denmark's University of Aarhus. In this daring attack, these aircraft flew at an astonishingly low altitude of zero feet. One pilot even went so close to the ground that he collided with part of the university building, resulting in a buckled engine needle upon his return. However, despite this damage, both bombers successfully executed accurate bombing runs and obliterated their target. The Royal Air Force hailed this raid as one of its most triumphant operations during World War II. The aftermath showcased unparalleled destruction inflicted upon the enemy forces within Aarhus on October 31st, 1944. This photograph from Memory Lane Prints transports us back to those intense moments when brave pilots risked everything for victory. It serves as a testament to the unwavering determination and skill displayed by these aviators who played a crucial role in shaping history. As we gaze upon this image today, let us remember and honor all those who fought valiantly during WWII - not only for their own countries but also for freedom and justice worldwide.
