Back from Canada to Meltham was scout Paul Vickers, whose family emigrated across the Atlantic six years ago. Paul, 14, is pictured with members of the 5th Holme Valley (Meltham) scouts and group scout leader Dave Curtis just before he returned to his home in Perth, Ontario, after a 12-week visit to Meltham. The eldest child of Alan and Maureen Vickers, Paul stayed at the Hay Cresent home of his grandparents, Mrs and Mrs Ken Stokes. During his stay he attended local scout meetings, took part in activities including pioneering and canoeing and swapped a variety of scouting badges with his Meltham contemporaries. 3rd September 1987
