EDITORS COMMENTS
Medersa Abu al-Hassan, also known as the Medersa des Merinides, is a stunning architectural masterpiece located in Sale, a coastal city in Rabat, Morocco. This photograph, taken in the 1920s, captures the exterior of the madrasa, an Islamic educational institution, during a time when Morocco was still under French protectorate. The intricate and ornate architecture of the madrasa is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Morocco. The red-hued walls are adorned with intricate geometric patterns, Arabic calligraphy, and beautiful arches, creating a breathtaking visual feast. The large, arched doorway invites visitors to step inside and explore the inner courtyard, where students once studied and learned the teachings of Islam. The Madersa Abu al-Hassan was built during the Merinid dynasty in the 14th century and is considered one of the most beautiful madrasas in Morocco. It was named after Abu al-Hassan, the founder of the Merinid dynasty. The madrasa served as a center of learning for Islamic scholars and students for centuries, and its influence can still be felt in the region today. Despite the passage of time and the various cultural influences that have shaped Morocco, the Medersa Abu al-Hassan remains a proud symbol of Moroccan history and heritage. Its enduring beauty continues to attract visitors from around the world, who come to marvel at the intricacies of its design and the depth of its cultural significance.
