EDITORS COMMENTS
In this historic photograph, taken in April 1925, a crowd gathers to witness an extraordinary aviation stunt in the skies above the United States. Sponsored by Ford Motor Company, this daring feat marked the inauguration of the first air freight service between Detroit and Cleveland. At the heart of the spectacle is a disassembled Model T Ford car, carefully packed into the cargo hold of a Ford Tri-Motor aircraft. The Tri-Motor, a pioneering aircraft of its time, had three engines and could carry a payload of up to 1,500 pounds (680 kg). The car, dismantled into some 300 parts, was a testament to the ingenuity and innovation of the era. As the Tri-Motor took off from Detroit City Airport, thousands of onlookers watched in awe. The flight, which covered a distance of approximately 100 miles (160 km), was a public relations triumph for Ford Motor Company. The successful transportation of the Model T in the air generated widespread publicity and showcased the potential of air travel for commercial purposes. Upon arrival in Cleveland, the parts of the Model T were swiftly reassembled within an hour. Once the final bolt was tightened, the car roared to life, much to the delight of the eager crowd. This groundbreaking event not only highlighted the capabilities of Ford Motor Company but also served as a symbol of the rapid advancements in transportation technology during the 1920s in the United States.
