EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant commemorative print features the 1914/15 Star Medal, awarded posthumously to 457 Private Andrew Loan of the 8th Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). The medal bears the inscription "1914-15 STAR" and is accompanied by a poppy and the regimental badge of the Cameronians, a Scottish thistle encircled by the motto "Ich Dien," which translates to "I serve." Private Loan tragically lost his life on 28th June 1915 during the Battle of Gully Ravine at Gallipoli. This significant engagement took place during the First World War, also known as the Great War, and was part of the larger Gallipoli Campaign. The battle was a costly and unsuccessful attempt by the Allied forces to control the Dardanelles and secure a sea route to Russia. The print also includes a brief inscription, "K.I.A.," which stands for "Killed in Action," a stark reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by Private Loan and countless others during the conflict. He is remembered on the Helles Memorial, a poignant tribute to the 21,000 Allied soldiers who lost their lives during the Gallipoli Campaign. This print serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by Private Loan and the countless other soldiers who fought and died during the First World War. The intricately detailed design and historical significance make it a valuable addition to any military or historical collection.
