EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a magnificent Design Festival Float Barge dating back to the years 1530-40. Created using pen and brown ink, with brush wash and highlighted in white, this artwork is truly a masterpiece. The artist skillfully employed black chalk on faded blue paper to bring out the intricate details of this elaborate construction. Measuring at an impressive size of 10 1/4 x 16 7/8 inches (261 x 428 cm), this drawing is believed to be from the circle of Perino del Vaga and Pietro Buonaccorsi, both renowned Italian artists hailing from Florence and Rome respectively. There are also suggestions that Prospero Fontana, a prominent artist from Bologna, possibly had a hand in its creation. Another study reveals variations in the design, showcasing the dedication put into perfecting every aspect of this festival float barge. Intended for display at Musée des Beaux Arts Rennes under inventory number C651, it has found its way to New York where Artokoloro proudly presents it as part of their Liszt Collection. Although traditionally attributed to Polidoro da Caravaggio or Bernice Davidson due to their close association with Perino del Vaga's work, this particular piece was likely executed by a talented follower who captured the essence and grandeur of these festive floats with remarkable precision.
