George Du Maurier Glass Frame Collection

George Du Maurier was a French-born British cartoonist and author who is best known for his novel Trilby. He was born in Paris in 1834, the son of a French actor. He moved to London at the age of 21 and began working as an illustrator for Punch magazine. His illustrations were popular with readers and he went on to become one of the most successful cartoonists of his time. In addition to his cartoons, he wrote several novels including Peter Ibbetson and Trilby which became a bestseller in 1895. His work was admired by many writers including Oscar Wilde who praised him for his “brilliant draughtsmanship”. Du Maurier died in 1896 but his legacy lives on through his work which continues to be celebrated today.
