London: A women and child is assisted by squatters to enter the empty 60 room mansion a 144

London: A women and child is assisted by squatters to enter the empty 60 room mansion a 144, Piccadilly, London, this morning. Ironically, adorning the wall of the building is a poster with the message, " London Policemen are Wonderful."
The squatters took over the building earlier this week, and by last night, it was reported that 350 persons had moved into the building, which is owned by the Amalgamated West End Developments and Property Trust Ltd.
Yesterday, an ultimatum was given to the squatters in the form of a high court order requiring them to leave the premises by 1600 hours tomorrow.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print captured on September 18th, 1969, we witness a powerful juxtaposition of social dynamics in the heart of London. A determined woman and her child are being assisted by squatters as they enter a vacant mansion located at 144 Piccadilly. The irony is palpable as a poster proclaiming "London Policemen are Wonderful" adorns the wall of the building. This historic moment showcases the audacity and resilience of those who have taken over the mansion earlier in the week. Reports indicate that an astounding number of 350 individuals have already moved into this grand structure owned by Amalgamated West End Developments and Property Trust Ltd. However, their occupation faces imminent threat as yesterday brought forth an ultimatum from the high court. The squatters were served with an order demanding them to vacate these premises by tomorrow's evening, leaving them with limited time to negotiate their fate. This thought-provoking image serves as a reminder of societal inequalities and challenges faced by marginalized communities during that era. It encapsulates both hope for change and defiance against oppressive systems. As viewers gaze upon this photograph, they cannot help but ponder upon its implications for justice and equality in London's bustling streets.
