Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, also known as Sultan Suleiman I or Kanuni (the Lawgiver) in the East, ruled the Ottoman Empire from 1520 to his death in 1566. This stunning portrait, believed to have been created around 1560, captures the Sultan in the prime of his reign. Suleiman I was the tenth and longest-reigning Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, a period marked by military conquests, cultural achievements, and the consolidation of the Ottoman Empire as a major world power.
