EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the historic Gordon Arms pub, located in the heart of Fareham, Hampshire (PO16 7TG). The image presents a frontal view of the pub, with its red-painted facade and ornate, tiled sign bearing the name "Gordon Arms." The pub, which was once a popular watering hole for locals and travelers alike, was a cherished part of the community. The Gordon Arms, which was not owned by the Charrington and Company Limited, was a quintessential British pub, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere where friends could gather over a pint of ale or a hearty meal. The pub's history dates back to the early 20th century, and it was a fixture in the town of Fareham for many decades. As of July 2018, however, the Gordon Arms, like so many pubs in the UK, was no more. The building had been converted into housing, a sad loss for those who held fond memories of the pub and the role it played in the community. The photograph serves as a poignant reminder of a bygone era, when the pub was a central hub of social life in Fareham. The back of the print includes the address and historical note about the conversion, but the image itself speaks volumes about the history and character of this once-beloved establishment.
