An early morning sunrise at RNAS Yeovilton/HMS Heron as the ground crew of 702 Naval Air Squadron get ready for the departure of a Lynx MK3 aircraft.
RNAS Yeovilton, home to the Fleet Air Arm pictured on a cold October morning as 702 Lynx Naval Air Squadron, get there aircraft ready for a days flying.
The Lynx MK3 & MK8 aircraft are used to train pilots and observers, who will later deploy on operational duties, once there intense training period has been completed.
702 NAS also fly and maintain the Royal Navys black Cats display team aircraft.
The display aircraft are also used for squadron day to day training tasks, ensuring that every RN asset is put to its correct use.
The trainee pilots dont get to use the display aircraft for anything other than flying under the direction of a qualified Royal Navy pilot instructor. Only selected aircrew are able to use the aircraft for aerial displays.
