EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the impressive HMS Atherstone, a mine countermeasure vessel operating in the Middle East. The Hunt Class warships, constructed entirely out of Glass Reinforced Plastic, hold the distinction of being the largest vessels ever built with this material. Originally designed as dual-purpose minesweepers and minehunters, these ships now primarily serve in the vital role of minehunting. Equipped with state-of-the-art high definition sonar technology, these Minehunters diligently search for hidden mines before neutralizing them using either explosives placed by skilled Mine Clearance Divers or through the innovative Sea Fox Mine Disposal System. To enhance their capabilities further, they are armed with a single 30mm gun along with two Miniguns and three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs). This formidable arsenal enables the Hunt class to effectively function as potent patrol craft when required. Operated by the Royal Navy, HMS Atherstone exemplifies both strength and versatility in its mission to safeguard maritime security. This remarkable image captured by LA (Phot) Jay Allen encapsulates not only the ship's sleek design but also highlights its essential equipment that ensures it can fulfill its crucial role effectively
