The European Union (EU), then known as the Common Market, was undergoing significant changes that would shape its future. Brexit was not yet on the horizon, but discussions about Europe's role in Britain were already taking center stage. Home Secretary Roy Jenkins took to the podium during a passionate debate on the Common Market, highlighting both sides of the argument.
