Liskeard, a picturesque town nestled in the heart of Cornwall, is blessed with natural wonders and rich history. The River Fowey gracefully meanders through lush woodlands, creating a serene atmosphere that captivates all who visit. Golitha Falls adds to this enchantment as its cascading waters create a symphony of sound and beauty. Dating back to 1832, an old Victorian map showcases Liskeard's significance even during those times. It highlights the town's importance as a hub for trade and commerce in Cornwall. Nearby stands the magnificent Cheesewring on Stowes Hill, an iconic landmark set against the backdrop of Bodmin Moor near Minions. This ancient rock formation has stood tall for centuries, captivating visitors with its unique shape and mysterious origins. In 1868, members of the Royal Institution of Cornwall embarked on an exciting excursion party to witness the grandeur of the Cheesewring firsthand. Their joyous faces captured in photographs serve as timeless reminders of Liskeard's allure throughout history. Fast forward to May 1949 when Liskeard basked in springtime glory; it was a time when nature flourished alongside bustling streets filled with life and activity. The Cheesewring remained steadfast over time, continuing to inspire awe among locals and tourists alike. Centuries before these events unfolded, around 1777 precisely, Liskeard found its place on county maps—a testament to its enduring presence within Cornwall's landscape. Even Queen Elizabeth II herself graced Liskeard Station during her royal tour in May 1956—an occasion etched into local memory forever. The public arms proudly displayed Galashiels', Kintore's Wigan's Hyde's Newark’s emblems alongside Liskeard’s own coat-of-arms—a symbol representing unity and heritage within this vibrant community. Not far from town lies St Keyne Well—a sacred site steeped in legend and folklore.
