Novelist widow leaves him £ 2000. Refusing to follow in the footsteps of his famous uncle, Thomas Henry Soundy, nephew of Thomas Hardy, is serving his apprenticeship as a junior chef at the Carlton Hotel in Pall Mall, London. Is 19 years old.
His aunt, Hardys widow, left in £ 2000 to help him in his chosen career and Soundy hopes to buy a restaurant of his own time.
