Skylab 3 Close-Up
A closeup view of the Skylab space station photographed against an Earth background from the Skylab 3 Command/Service Module during station keeping maneuvers prior to docking. The Ilba Grande de Gurupa area of the Amazon River Vally of Brazil can be seen below. Aboard the command module were astronauts Alan L. Bean, Owen K. Garriott, and Jack R. Lousma, who remained with the Skylab space station in Earths orbit for 59 days. This picture was taken with a hand-held 70mm Hasselblad camera using a 100mm lens and SO-368 medium speed Ektachrome film. Note the one solar array system wing on the Orbital Workshop (OWS) which was successfully deployed during axtravehicular activity (EVA) on the first manned Skylab flight. The parasol solar shield which was deployed by the Skylab 2 crew can be seen through the support struts of the Apollo Telescope Mount

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Skylab space station in all its glory, as it hovers against the breathtaking backdrop of Earth. Taken during station keeping maneuvers prior to docking, this close-up view offers a glimpse into the incredible journey undertaken by astronauts Alan L. Bean, Owen K. Garriott, and Jack R. Lousma aboard the Skylab 3 Command/Service Module. As their home for an impressive 59 days in Earth's orbit, Skylab served as a hub for scientific exploration and discovery. The Ilba Grande de Gurupa area of the Amazon River Valley in Brazil can be seen below, reminding us of our planet's stunning natural wonders. The photograph was captured using a hand-held 70mm Hasselblad camera with precise attention to detail - employing a 100mm lens and SO-368 medium speed Ektachrome film. Noteworthy is the successful deployment of one solar array system wing on the Orbital Workshop (OWS) during extravehicular activity (EVA) on Skylab's inaugural manned flight. Through the support struts of the Apollo Telescope Mount (ATM), we catch a glimpse of another significant achievement: the parasol solar shield deployed by Skylab 2 crew members. This remarkable image encapsulates both human ingenuity and our eternal fascination with exploring outer space. It serves as a testament to mankind's relentless pursuit of knowledge beyond our own planet while reminding us to cherish and protect our beautiful home here on Earth.
