This is the Prickly Dreamer anglerfish, Spiniphryne glandisfenae. This individual was captured in a trawl between 600 and 200 meters depth in the Gulf of Mexico, 2016. Female deep sea anglerfishes are predatory, luring their prey with a bioluminescent bulb (an esca) at the end of a long rod (an illicium), which is a modified fin ray. Impressive teeth are used to impale and hold any prey item that moves in to investigate the glowing lure. Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang.
