Jeanne-Marie Lanvin (1867 - 1946) was an influential French fashion designer. The clothing she made for her child attracted the attention of a number of wealthy mothers who wanted copies for their own daughters. She began to design clothes for adult women and some of the most famous names in Europe were patrons of her Paris boutique. © New York Public Library / Science Source
