Framed Print of Deep Water Shrimp

The deep water shrimp, Systellaspis debilis, has been found down to 1, 500 meters depth. The species makes a daily migration with the "deep scattering layer" or DSL. The DSL is a community of deep water wildlife that migrates every day to shallow water, at night, to feed on plankton. They return to the depths by day. It is the largest migration of wildlife on the planet, and it happens every 24 hrs. This individual was trawled up in the Gulf of Mexico, 2015. © Dante Fenolio / Science Source
