Framed Print of Seismic tomography, diagram
Seismic tomography. Diagram showing how analysis of seismic waves generated by an earthquake can be used to locate and map underground structures within the Earth. Differences in the material underground (dark spots at upper right and centre right) change the speed of propagation of the earthquake wave (white concentric circles). It is analysis of these changes that allows subsurface structures to be mapped.
