Framed Print of Prehistoric trees, artwork

Prehistoric trees. Computer artwork of conifers growing 300 million years ago during the Late Carboniferous period (354-290 million years ago), in what is now south-eastern Illinois, USA. Fossil evidence suggests that these early conifers resembled todays Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heterophylla). In this image the foreground trees show three different stages of conifer growth, while mature conifers can be seen in the fog shrouded background. The middle foreground conifer is about 30 feet tall. Science Photo Library features Science and Medical images including photos and illustrations. © Walter Myers. All rights reserved
