Framed Prints From Science Photo Library

Framed Print of Mars topography, artwork C017 / 7332

Mars topography. Computer artwork based on satellite data, showing the topography of the planet Mars. The topography of Mars is clearly divided in two regions: the northern plains - virtually without impact craters and covered by huge lava flows, and the southern mountainous terrain - characterised by a large number of impact craters, most of them very old. The average height difference between the two regions is about 4 km, which suggests that the northern planes once housed a giant ocean.
