Framed Photos from Science Photo Library
DNA transcription, molecular model
DNA transcription, molecular model. Secondary structure of the enzyme RNA polymerase II synthesising a mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid, lilac) strand from a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid, red) template. Polymerase II recognises a start sign on the DNA strand and then moves along the strand building the mRNA until it reaches a stop sign. mRNA is the intermediary between DNA and its protein product

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from Science Photo Library showcases the intricate process of DNA transcription through a mesmerizing molecular model. The image depicts the secondary structure of RNA polymerase II, an enzyme responsible for synthesizing messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) strands from a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) template. In this artistic representation, the DNA strand is illustrated in vibrant red, while the resulting mRNA strand is depicted in lilac. RNA polymerase II initiates transcription by recognizing a start sign on the DNA strand and then proceeds to move along it, meticulously constructing the mRNA molecule until it reaches a stop sign. The significance of mRNA as an intermediary between DNA and its protein product cannot be overstated. This chain-like illustration beautifully captures how genetic information encoded within DNA is transcribed into RNA before being translated into proteins that play crucial roles in various biological processes. With its blend of biochemistry and molecular biology elements, this artwork offers viewers a glimpse into the complex world of genetics. From polypeptides to alpha helices and beta sheets, every detail highlights the intricate structures involved in gene expression. Science Photo Library has once again captured scientific beauty with this stunning portrayal of DNA transcription—a testament to their commitment to providing visually striking images that educate and inspire curiosity about our fascinating natural world.
