Framed Print of German printing machine from 1904

German printing machine from 1904. This lithographic machine, dating from 1904, was made in Augsburg, Germany. A lithographic printing template is seen at lower centre, with a set of ink rollers above it. Lithography, which was invented in 1798, relies on a chemical etching process that produces a template where the ink that is applied ends up only in the areas needing to be inked. The rollers then press the ink from the template onto the printing paper. This machine is part of a historical exhibition at the Polytechnical Museum, Moscow, Russia. Photographed in 2006. Science Photo Library features Science and Medical images including photos and illustrations. © RIA NOVOSTI/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY
