Framed Prints From Science Photo Library
Framed Print of Gas diffusion experiment, 19th century
Gas diffusion experiment. Hydrogen gas is produced from a chemical reaction at left. Since hydrogen is a small and light gas molecule, it passes through the clay pipe faster than air or other gases can. The arrangement of the apparatus means that a vacuum is generated, causing water to rise up the tube at lower left from the jar of water. Artwork from the seventh volume (first period of 1891) of the French popular science weekly La Science Illustree. Science Photo Library features Science and Medical images including photos and illustrations. © SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY
