The Volunteer Fire Brigade in action in Truro with a number of onlookers. Men are hand pumping hoses along with a steam powered engine. The Truro Volunteer Brigade was formed in 1868 and had two fire engines and an escape housed in a station in St Marys Street. The brigade moved its premises firstly to the Town Hall and, in 1882, a new fire station was opened in High Cross. Photographer: Arthur William Jordan. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
