EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from the Royal Cornwall Museum takes us back to a significant era in Cornish history. Captured between 1926 and 1930, it showcases the impressive Wheal Kitty Mine in St Agnes, Cornwall. The surface view of Saras shaft provides a glimpse into the bustling activity that once took place within this mining complex. From a south-western perspective, we are presented with an expansive scene that highlights various key elements of the mine's infrastructure. Dominating the frame is the towering engine house, its sturdy structure standing as a testament to human ingenuity and determination. Adjacent to it is a chimney billowing smoke into the sky, symbolizing both progress and industry. The surrounding mine buildings complete this snapshot of life at Wheal Kitty during its operational years. Though their specific purposes may remain unknown to us today, they serve as silent witnesses to countless stories of hard work and perseverance. While we admire this remarkable photograph for its historical value, credit must be given to an anonymous photographer whose keen eye captured this moment forever. Their ability to encapsulate such intricate details amidst an industrial landscape allows us now to reflect upon Cornwall's rich mining heritage. As we delve into our past through images like these, let us remember those who worked tirelessly beneath our feet - their efforts shaping not only local communities but also contributing significantly to global industries.
