EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a vintage poster titled "Perth - The Fair City, Perth Council (LMS)" created between 1923 and 1947. Designed by the talented artist W M Frazer, this artwork was commissioned by the Perth Council of London Midland & Scottish Railway. The poster beautifully captures the essence of Perth, Scotland's fair city, with its breathtaking countryside landscapes and picturesque rivers flowing through charming rural cities. As we gaze upon this piece, our eyes are drawn to the magnificent bridges that span across these tranquil waters, connecting communities and symbolizing unity. The composition is enhanced by dramatic clouds that add depth and texture to the scene. They seem to dance above the landscape, casting shadows on rolling hills while allowing rays of sunlight to peek through gaps in their fluffy formations. Preserved within National Railway Museum's Pictorial Collection, this print serves as a window into a bygone era when railway companies sought to promote travel destinations through artistic posters. It reminds us of an era when rail travel was not only practical but also an opportunity for adventure and exploration. As we admire this historical gem from NRM/Pictorial Collection, let us appreciate how art can transport us back in time and evoke feelings of nostalgia for places we may have never visited or experienced firsthand.
